Laser Periodontal Therapy

LASER PERIODONTAL THERAPY

Recent studies show approximately 65% of Americans suffer from some form of periodontal disease. Left untreated, this causes bleeding gums, shifting teeth, bad breath, abscesses and eventual loss of your teeth. Gum disease is also associated with a variety of systemic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and pancreatic cancer. It’s paramount to control periodontal inflammation as part of overall health. Unfortunately, people often avoid therapy because they are fearful of having traditional periodontal treatment.

Advanced laser technology can now be used to effectively treat gum disease without the pain and side effects of traditional surgery. Treatment is fast, virtually painless, requires no sutures, and can be performed in 1 visit. Doctors have used lasers for many years to provide better care for their patients. LASIK vision correction and laser procedures in dermatology are widely accepted forms of treatment. This is an incredible benefit to those who have avoided proper care due to fear of having surgical therapy and the associated side effects. We are proud to offer this technology to our patients.

MORE COMFORTABLE

The Er;Cr:YSGG laser uses laser energy and a gentle spray of water to perform a wide range of dental procedures without the heat, vibration and pressure associated with the dental drill, and without using a scalpel to make incisions.  The laser energy detoxifies the periodontal pocket and removes diseased tissue.   The procedure is minimally invasive, requires no sutures, and is without the post op pain and cold sensitivity associated with traditional periodontal surgery.

MORE PRECISE

The laser removes diseased tissue much more precisely than conventional methods. Greater precision in removing diseased tissues preserves more of the healthy tissues in your mouth, which avoids the cold sensitivity associated with traditional therapy. Minimally invasive treatment leads to quicker and better healing.

LESS BLEEDING AND SWELLING

Due to its conservative, gentle cutting action and coagulating capabilities, the laser performs many procedures with little or no bleeding and less post-operative swelling. Because of this, patients no longer need to discontinue anticoagulant therapy, or blood thinners, to have effective gum disease treatment.
